When you foster a dog, you keep it with you until someone chooses to adopt it. Dogs need fostering because the organization that we are working with (DPA) does not have a building and cannot hold on to the dogs forever. After a certain amount of time, the dogs that aren't fostered need to be put down. In Dallas, when a stray pet is found most people call animal control or take it to a shelter. At shelters, they feed and care for the dogs that are healthy in hopes that they find a “forever “ home for them. If a dog is not healthy, they stay in the “back room” of the shelter and are never put up for adoption. The shelters don’t have the money to take care of all the dogs. Therefore, that is why Foster Heroes is raising money to help find foster families for dogs.  The money that Foster Heroes raises will go to our community partner, Dallas Pets Alive to help pay for medical care for the “back room dogs” and other costs associated with fostering. Dallas Pets Alive, our community partner, helps find foster homes for the dogs that are out of the “back room”. Visit Dallas Pets Alive's website at dallaspetsalive.org for more info.
